A special mention for the Pastry Chef Adam Thomas who blew us away with its perfectly executed pastries & desserts. Outstanding quality of service consistent in all areas of the hotel. The training of the staff is done at a rarely seen level and is a model for the entire hospitality industry. We award to the Broadmoor a never given before 20/20 points for the perfect service. The St Regis King Cole Bar has been - and still is - an iconic meeting place for New Yorkers and International celebrities such as Salvador Dali, Marylin Monroe or John Lennon. Impressive building beautifully restored (a former bank), wonderful interior decoration done with a great taste for details. This property is simply one of the very best in the country.
Dunton Hot Springs
Breathtaking location in the wilderness. This hotel is composed of original wood cabins dated back to the 1800’s, decorated with a great taste including vintage art pieces from the owner’s private collection. This perfectly restored ghost town includes a real saloon offering very authentic food. Vast choice of outdoor activities such as horseback riding, hiking and fly fishing. A perfect choice for romantic getaways. The absence of cell phone coverage will guarantee absolute tranquility and disconnection from city life.
New York ny
One of the most important historical hotels in New York, opened since 1930. Perfectly located right in front of Central Park, the Pierre is a perfect choice for the business traveler. Fresh and creative food by the very talented Chef Ashfer Biju. Beautiful suites overlooking Central Park. Slightly boring atmosphere in the lobby and insufficient interaction of the lobby staff with the guests. In spite of this -easily correctible- issue, the Pierre is one of our favorite hotels in New York.
Lotte New York Palace
New York ny
A landmark in New York’s architecture, this hotel has a rich history and a real soul. This hotel has a sense of grandeur that few hotels have. We love the vast suites, beautifully decorated with a sure sense of taste and understanding of simple and refined elegance. The breakfast at Villard restaurant is amazing. Masterfully created by Chef Oscar Granados, the plates radiate with multiple colors and are a joy to look at. A great way to start the day.
This is a real farm, with real animals, real vegetables, real fruits, and generous people who love what they do. The Blackberry farm is a wonderful boutique hotel that has a deep connection with nature. Exquisitely decorated bedrooms in a simple and elegant manner. Vast choice of outdoor activities. The food is brilliantly done with the help a very talented team of a gardener, a baker, a butcher, a sommelier and an impressive team of Chefs.

The Homestead is a property that has a true American feeling and a distinctive southern charm.

What a beautiful hotel! The decoration is a perfect mix between contemporary clean lines and classical style. Congrats to the interior designer who did a wonderful job in all the hotel. You just feel good, and also empowered in this property. Don’t miss the afternoon tea experience, served in Wedgwood English fine China.
This iconic downtown Chicago hotel has the Wow effect we are searching for in every property we review. Exquisite decoration, smart choice of furniture, elegant & refined contemporary design everywhere. We like the Spanish restaurant “Mercat a la Planxa” with wonderful tapas. This is Chicago’s best property as of today.
Paws up Ranch
A wonderful dude ranch with the choice of a resort an a real ranch experience with all the activities we like: horseback riding, cattle drive, fly-fishing, ghost town tour and rifle range. Don’t miss the chuck wagon experience with a banjo player and a cowboy poet, and of course a delicious BBQ with the biggest Angus prime ribs we have ever seen.
New York ny
A majestuous historical building at the absolute perfect location in New York, right at the corner of 5th ave. and Central Park. The Plaza is one of the most iconic hotels in New York and in the World. Staying at the Plaza shows power and status. The hotel bar is the perfect place for business meetings. Amazing views on Central Park from the suites windows. Elegant and refined decoration in rooms and suites. One slight issue: A crowed lobby too oftenly filled with tourists going to the food hall in the basement that spoils the intimacy and privacy of hotel guests.
Canyon Point ut
This hotel and its fabulous surroundings are a perfect background for a Star Wars episode. Hidden in the mountains, the Amangiri is a beautiful modern hotel, with a concrete structure that perfectly blends into the landscape. Put your boots on, and explore the desert on a horse. We love the cultural discoveries at ancient caves, and the opportunity to learn about the Navajo culture. Amangiri is a wonderful retreat for desert lovers.
Brush Creek Ranch
You’ll instantly love this resort. This is exactly what we are looking for for a quality family adventure time, deeply connected with nature and horses for an authentic western experience. Nicely decorated cabins. Wonderful selection of outdoor activities: Horseback riding, rifle, archery and gun range, trekking and paintball fun. We love the Creekside dinner camp and the smell of meat cooked over the fire.

A 1892 lighthouse on a rocky islet turned into a luxurious boutique hotel. No need to say more. This is the definition of a secret retreat for a romantic week end or a family gathering. Also perfect for a novelist or a photographer in search of artistic inspiration.
Watch Hill ri
Facing the Ocean, this century old hotel is the perfect choice for family holidays in Rhode Island. The rooms decor is infused with a summer holiday spirit. We particularly loved the Cottage Collection, specially the “Old School House”, that your family won’t want to leave. Congratulations to the very talented Executive Chef Nicolas Bour, for delivering impeccable food across all restaurants.
Shutters on the Beach
Santa Monica ca
The name says it all: It’s really on the beach. There is a true beach theme all over this property that reminds us childhood memories of our first holidays playing in the soft and white sand. The interior decoration is nice but slightly dated. Overall a hotel that delivers a wonderful experience for the entire family
A time travel in a magnificent 19th century house. We love the absolutely authentic atmosphere of this historic hotel, filled with original pieces of vintage furniture. A stay at this property gives you a social status boost and and improves your self confidence. We all should spend a few days per year at the Wentworth Mansion to reflect on ourselves, find new ideas, and move forward.
We instantly felt in love with the Ella hotel. There is everything that we love: A beautiful historic mansion perfectly restored, a very sophisticated design, and a lot of original art pieces. The suites are simply and elegantly decorated, including very nice bathrooms. Very well executed modern American cuisine at the restaurant “Goodall’s Kitchen”. We love the Ella Parlor Bar for a drink at the end of a cultural discoveries in Austin.
The High Lonesome Ranch
Beautifully located in the Colorado Rockies, in a perfectly conserved wild environment, the High Lonesome Ranch is a family oriented dude ranch with a very warm service. Marian Cole, the Dude Ranch Director, is doing a great job in organizing incredible horse back adventures. Don’t miss the breakfast prepared by “Aunt Linda”, the Ranch’s heart and soul.
A truly authentic Miami hotel in an historic art deco building a short walk from the beach. Nice and clean contemporary decoration. We love the food of Chef Carlos Torres, made with passion and love. Extremely warm service by a wonderful team. This hotel is perfectly managed and has succeeded in creating a true team spirit at all levels of the staff.
Sinya on lone man creek
Situated atop a ridge overlooking a beautiful creek in central Texas, this modified safari tent is a dream made reality. Decorated in rustic yet elegant style, the views of the surrounding vegetation and trees are amazing. Texas of Africa? You can’t tell.
Fairmont San Francisco
San Francisco ca
An impressive building that projects confidence and power. This is the place to receive your business guests when coming to San Francisco. The lobby is the place to be seen and receive your friends and business partners to start a positive relationship. Beautiful Ballroom. Too bad the magic of the lobby does not go into the rooms, decorated in an uninspired way.
Intercontinental The Willard
An impressive historical building located at an extremely prestigious address close to the White House. This hotel makes you feel you are a personal guest of the President of the United States. Beautiful classical 19th century style furniture. The afternoon tea at the Peacock Alley is served in beautifully curated chinaware.
The Ranch at Rock Creek
Let’s put it in a simple way: You’ll feel exactly like in Western movie. We are waiting to see Clint Eastwood or John Wayne somewhere on the property. Incredibly authentic ranch with 19th century old barns. Warm welcome, great food, horseback riding and safe practice of shooting with great instructors. Get your cowboy boots ready.
Camden Harbour Inn
A charming house with very nice and passionate owners, Raymond and Oscar. We like the great taste in furniture selection and decoration of the rooms. A very attentive service and curated amenities make the stay an absolute pleasure. Very good food options at the restaurant Nathalie’s. Easily accessible from New York, the Camden Harbour Inn is a perfect option for a romantic getaway.
Past the somehow disappointing lobby (bland furniture), we felt in love with the exquisite decoration of rooms with a perfectly blended art deco and Asian style. The Peninsula Chicago is a perfect choice for business meetings with a very central location. Excellent Chinese restaurant “Shanghai Terrace”.
Thirty minutes from Manhattan, this medieval style castle has en enchanting atmosphere. Warm and luxurious ambiance. We like the decoration of the luxury suites, but expect some creative and more inspired touches. The Equus restaurant offers a delicious contemporary food based on local ingredients, with a beautiful plating.
New York ny
A sophisticated, clean and crisp decoration. You like it or not. We do. The Mark has a French arrogance attitude in the middle of New York. We like the “Mark Premier One Bedroom Suites”. Beautifully designed “The Mark Restaurant”. Too sad the food is not as sophisticated as it claims to be. A perfect choice for a NYC shopping trip.
Ritz Carlton Central Park
New York ny
Facing Central Park, the Ritz-Carlton is a conservative hotel which does not try to follows the trends. Nice and classical lobby. The suites and rooms decoration is slightly dated with amazing views on Central Park. The Food options are good but not thrilling. This extremely well located hotel should do much better in all aspects. We expect better from this hotel brand.
New York ny
We simply love this hotel. We feel good in it. And that’s the best compliment we can make about a hotel. Warm and welcoming lobby, nicely designed suites with attention to details. Having lunch at the Gin Parlour is a pleasure, with the very precise and fresh food from Chef Andrew Ayala. Ask to be served by Fernando, a wonderful waiter with a brilliant personality and a passion for his job.
Castle Hill Inn
A family house full of childhood memories. Playing on a beach with your bare feet. The smell of barbecued lobsters. No need to say more: This is the Castle Hill Inn. A charming property ideal for a getaway with your family.
Hotel St Germain
A very Parisian hotel in Dallas. The suites are decorated with a strong understanding of French style, and a remarkable selection of French style furniture and fabrics. This secret and intimate retreat is the perfect place for discreet personal meetings or confidential business lunchs. Our favorite spot is the Champagne bar, where you can enjoy your champagne with Foie Gras and oysters.
Yes, it’s THE Watergate hotel, in case you ask. Entirely renovated, this iconic and infamous property is now a glamorous hotel not only for politicians and lobbyists, but also for artists & creative professionals. We love the Scandal Room, originally the room 214, used in the Watergate break in, masterfully decorated with vintage items from the 1970’s.
Palm Beach fl
A beautiful 1940’s villa renovated with a lot of taste and bold colors. It was a risky move, but it works perfectly in the lobby and the rooms. Ugly decoration at the Polo restaurant, with green & blue colors that don’t go well together and spoil your appetite. We prefer by far the “Café 155”. Very friendly service. A perfect choice for a relaxing week end.
Ever wanted to stay in a trailer in a dusty desert like a hippie? This is what El Cosmico is about. We love the spirit of this property, with tents, yurts and trailers in the inspiring small town of Marfa, TX, in the middle of the desert. This property shows us the future of hospitality industry.
This property takes the Dude Ranch concept to a new level with a sophisticated Western style decoration in the rooms and public areas. Extremely warm and well furnished rooms and cabins. The food also goes to a next level with Chef AJ Buchanio and his thoughtful & creative take on fresh products.
The Boulderado is a historical property built in 1909, facing the foothills of the Rocky mountains. Beautiful historical architecture details all over the hotel, such as the cherry wood deck or the imposing stained glass ceiling. Warm service at the front desk. We love the food by Chef John Payne, working hard with local producers, and serving a neat and understandable cuisine. After a day exploring the city, relax at the underground "Licence 1" bar, with a prohibition era feel.
Cactus, Rocks, dust and horses: We are in a Western movie. That’s the magic about the Miraval, a resort that promotes a healthy lifestyle with a deep connection to nature. Great choice of healthy and fresh food. Friendly and professional service. A perfect resort for a relaxation of the body and the mind.
Casa Del Mar
Santa Monica ca
The phenomenal location saves this hotel. Facing the beach, it could not be better. We have been a bit disappointed by the bland decoration and selection of furniture, that should be improved and modernized. We loved the restaurant offering a fresh perspective on ultra-fresh seafood.
The Ranch Malibu
A simple yet sophisticated and elegant decoration. This property shows that extreme simplicity merged with a seamless connection with nature gives great results. Great food with local products cooked with a lot of love. Very good service and a natural connection between other guests make a stay at the Ranch a pure moment of bliss.
Ritz-Carlton San Francisco
San Francisco ca
It's all about power and status. A well thought art deco inspired decoration instantly empowers the guests. We want to stay longer in this hotel when we check out. Delicious pastries and canapés at the afternoon tea. We love the decadent gold and purple wine tasting room.
Post Ranch Inn
Big Sur ca
Overlooking the Pacific ocean, Post Ranch Inn offers a sanctuary for the soul and a wonderful experience totally disconnected from the city. Impressive food options, artistic food plating and very serious wine selection. A perfect choice for a personal retreat.
Ritz Carlton DC
With a perfectly mastered decoration and a great attention to details, this hotel is exactly what we expect of a DC hotel. A perfect blend of modern atmosphere and old world charm. The quadrant lounge is a perfect meeting place for discreet political and business meetings, and also a place to be seen.
Mackinac Island mi
This hotel is fully part of the history of the United States, since 1887. A majestic building on Mackinac island, on Lake Michigan. Beautifully decorated rooms. We like in particular the “First Lady Jaqueline Kennedy” suite and the “First Lady Nancy Reagan Suite”. This is a truly American property, with a very warm service.
New York ny
Extremely warm and nicely decorated lobby that makes guests and visitors feels in their own private club. The Carlyle is a place where you just like to go, without knowing why. The best suites have breathtaking views on Central Park. The choice of furniture and decoration elements in the rooms and suites is dated and could be improved. Attentive and a bit old-fashioned service at the Carlyle restaurant. Disappointing food that lacks precision and aesthetic plating. Great atmosphere at the Bemelmans bar, one of New York’s most iconic bars.
New York ny
The designer Jacques Garcia did an amazing job at the NoMad hotel. The beautiful, warm, creative and sophisticated decoration of the rooms is just remarkable. The Parlour Bar is very impressive, with beautiful tones of red velvet and gold touches. We love the fireplace imported from a French Château. A slight improvement in the food and service could make this hotel one of the very best in the country.
New York ny
The hotel starts well with a beautiful historical building right on Fifth avenue. Sadly, the entrance does not give the expected feeling of entering what should be one of the best hotels in the city. A too busy staff does not pay enough attention to the guests arriving in the lobby. Good selection of restaurants. Rooms and suites have outstanding views of the very heart of New York, but the poor choice of furniture for some of the items do not leave an unforgettable impression to the guests. We expect improvement for such a high potential property.
New York ny
Congratulations to Martin Brudnizki, the designer, who made a fantastic job in this building filled with history. We love the bold choices of interior architecture and decoration and the perfect restoration work. Warm, baroque and mysterious lobby. The atrium is a wonderful surprise. Nicely designed rooms. We love the bar in the atrium that is the perfect meeting place in downtown New York. We are expecting a significant improvement of the service, in order for this phenomenal property to reach its full potential.
We like the big and heavy marble columns in the lobby that gives this feeling of power and makes you feel like like a head of state in an official visit. Opened in 1895, this hotel has a rich history and has welcomed thirteen U.S. presidents. That’s what the Jefferson is about: power and status. Just walking through the marble staircase will give you a mental boost.
Build in the mid 1940’s for movie stars shooting Western movies, this motel sits in the middle of the desert, surrounded by rocks and cactuses. The atmosphere has a post apocalyptic Mad Max meets John Wayne feeling.
Diplomat Beach Resort
After an extensive renovation, this resort has found the perfect mix between a large conventions & business oriented property with an intimate boutique hotel feel. It’s still a vast property perfect for large events, but you can at the same time enjoy a relaxing stay with your family in an intimate and warm environment. We love the rooms & suites decoration, with extremely clean contemporary design. Don’t miss Monkitail, a wonderful Japanese restaurant that worth the trip.
St Regis Bal Harbour
Bal Harbour fl
The building in itself is not very impressive. An unremarkable modern tower. But the interior decoration is very well made with a thoughtful choice of furniture, fabrics and elements of design. Breathtaking view on the ocean from the rooms and suites. Impressive Butler service in the suites.
Bolton Landing ny
The perfect New York getaway for a week end of absolute relaxation, or a discreet business meeting. A one hundred years old property on a Lake George Island that has a lot of true American charm. We like the decoration of the rooms and suites in the historic building, but the Lodges rooms could improve the decoration and choice of furniture.
Union Station Hotel
In a beautiful restored 19th century railroad station, this hotel has an incredible historic charm that we love. We like the design of the suites in a contemporary yet very warm style, with interesting pieces of contemporary art on the walls. The food options could be more sophisticated: we expect improvement. Staying at this hotel makes a bold statement. We like it a lot.
Washington School House
Park City ut
Build as a school in 1889, this boutique hotel has a very sophisticated interior design with a perfect choice of vintage furniture. We want to congratulate the interior designer for a remarkable curation of decorative elements that perfectly works. One of the best hotel decoration we have seen in a a long time. Hearty breakfast made with love and small attentions.
This resort is exactly in the middle of the desert. It’s not a metaphor. It really is in the middle of canyons of incredible, unspoiled beauty. Walk for ten minutes outside the hotel, you’re totally alone, with no sound, no disturbance. You just hear the sound of your boots in the dust. At the shooting range, learn about target practice and firearms safety with Steve, an extremely professional instructor.
The Baker House 1650
East Hampton ny
Dated back to 1648, this property is one if the oldest houses in the United States. Perfectly renovated with a great sense of refinement and elegance, this is a truly American home, perfect for a weekend in the Hamptons away from New York City.
New York ny
This 1927 hotel is one of the most iconic and perfectly located New York City hotels. It’s like an old lady at the corner of Fifth avenue and Central Park. A very residential feeling. Beautiful Lobby fresco that looks like an Italian palace. Staying at one of the Park View suites makes you instantly feel you are a powerful New Yorker, ready for meetings with important politicians and CEO’s.
New York ny
We love the Chambers not only because it’s an inspiring contemporary hotel, but because of its wonderful General Manager Ansell Hawkins who is doing a amazing job to make the Chambers a very warm place to stay. Many art pieces all over the hotel. Vast and light filled suites. Creative food at “Ma Pêche” restaurant with a young & diverse environment of artists and creative minds.
In the vibrant Brooklyn neighborhood of Bedford-Stuyvesant, this 1860 villa has been beautifully restored with totally authentic vintage pieces. Monique Greenwood, the founder and owner, has done a remarkable work to create what is today undoubtedly one of the best boutique hotel in Brooklyn. Very warm service. Great family style food served at the communal table for breakfasts. Above all we love the incredible authenticity of this property. Yes, some tiles are missing in the bathrooms, and the plumbing start to shows it is more than one century old, but you would not have the same feeling if everything was brand new.
Park Hyatt NYC
New York ny
A massive glass building that looks like an administrative office building: view from the street, the hotel does not have the commanding presence we like in hotels. The lobby is hard to find, but very nicely decorated with an interesting selection of contemporary art pieces. The rooms and suites give a feeling of a New York City private residence, with gorgeous views and very well designed bathrooms. The creativity of the food could be improved and should be better at this level. Correct service that could be warmer, in particular at the street level entrance.
New York ny
A beautiful building of historical importance right on Times Square. This property has the potential to be one of the finest hotels on the New York. Sadly, it isn’t just there yet. The rooms and suites have the same decoration lacking excitement and creativity that would resonate with the neighborhood. Our biggest disappointment comes from the food. Despite all the respect we have for the very talented Chef Charlie Palmer, the food at the Knickerbocker lacks creativity and would require a more precise execution. This hotel needs now a clearer direction to reach its full potential.
New York ny
Nicely decorated suites with beautiful views on the city. We like the very warm, quiet and residential atmosphere of the Westhouse. A well located midtown discreet hotel. The lobby bar “The Den” is smartly build on a raised floor for added discretion. Our favorite suites are the One Bedroom Suites, with a well thought 1920’s decoration.
A stylish and sophisticated hotel. Flawless selection of furniture and fabrics that create a warm atmosphere. We particularly like the Elite Park Suites. Excellent restaurants offering Italian and French inspired perfectly executed food. We have been impressed by the afternoon tea served at the “Mary Cassat tea room”, offering a fresh, creative and beautiful high tea experience.
Mason & Rook
A refreshing hotel for DC, where we see too many boring properties. Staying at Mason & Rock shows you’re definitely a liberal (sorry for our conservative friends who have stayed there). The interior decor is thoughtfully made with inspiring colors for your political or business meetings in DC.
The Ivy tower is a 1930’s historic building perfectly located in the city. Too bad the decoration of the Ivy hotel does not dialogue with the building’s history and remains a somehow bland and already seen contemporary design. Nevertheless, it’s a very good hotel with a warm service.
Run by a charming couple, Andrea, a NYC fashion Executive and her partner Nelson, a Miami & New York artist, the Casa Hudson is a wonderful reinvention of the Bed & Breakfast. Filled with Nelson’s inspiring paintings, the property allows guest to totally disconnect from the city, sit, have an Italian coffee, and talk about art and life with the owners. Special bonus for art aficionados: an original Francis Bacon drawing is on display. That is true luxury.
Zion under canvas
Glamping at his best in front of the magnificent Utah’s Zion National Park. The pleasure of waking up in front of a National Park is immense and absolutely jaw dropping. Each tent sleeps four people, and are great for family escapades.
First of all, we loved the warm welcome and the very friendly reception. This hotel has something special that makes you feel instantly welcome in the beautiful city of Jackson, WY. Simple and elegant room decoration with a lot of attention to details. Superbly done comfort food at the Italian restaurant and excellent service.
Beverly Hills ca
The building is quite massive and heavy. The interior decoration is much better than the outside. Very refined and sophisticated choice of furniture and fabrics in the lobby and suites. We love the very british Club bar with wood paneling and excellent choice of fine spirits. Beautiful rooftop pool.
Beverly Hills ca
This hotel will take you back in the 1980’s opulence. Warm decoration that makes you feels like a powerful politician or a banker. Our favorite room is the Presidential suite office, a perfect choice to set up business meetings and look like the real Boss. A good (not outstanding though) dining options at the French inspired restaurant.
Four Seasons DC
A nice but somehow disappointing hotel. Something is missing to make it a truly great DC hotel, with the right amount of social status we would expect. The decoration is good, but it lacks a sophisticated vision and falls short of delivering this feeling of power we are expecting in a DC hotel. Fresh but not impressive dining options. A lot of unrealized potential.
We love the impressive lobby and the beautifully decorated dining room. It’s a perfect hotel for business meetings. Beautiful furniture and very warm feeling all around the property. it’s a truly historical hotel with a soul (and ghosts in the elevators, we were told). Great bar “The Last Hurrah” with an excellent whiskey selection. So sad the sophistication of the food does not match the beautiful ambiance in the restaurants.
New York ny
A baroque hotel for creative travelers. The designers made an extensive use of red velvet for the furniture, which works pretty well and adds warmth to the atmosphere. The service could be improved with a better attention to the guests: A highly sophisticated and intellectual decoration should not be the only asset of this nice hotel.
New York ny
The Quin hotel is trying hard to impress us, but still has work to do to fully succeed. We like the presence of contemporary art pieces in the hotel and the cooperation with artists. But the room and suites design remains unimpressive and not very creative for a hotel who displays so much passion for art, at the notable exception of the magnificent Penthouse. The restaurant - not managed by the hotel - offers a good but not very original food.
New York ny
We love the location and the Brooklyn style of the Wythe, a former factory in the very hip district of Williamsburg. Simple yet sophisticated rooms design with a spectacular view on the Manhattan skyline. We love the light and the constant view of brick walls. A perfect location for artists and unconventional business travelers. The Wythe is a creative hub for creative minds.
A National Historic Landmark, this hotel is fully part of Cincinnati’s history. The public areas have been beautifully restored with great attention to the Art Deco details, this hotel is a natural choice for the business traveler in Cincinnati. Sadly, the decoration of the rooms is very banal and does not reflect the grandeur and the style of the hotel.
White Sulphur Springs wv
A United States National Historic Landmark, The Greenbrier is since 1778 one of the best hotels in the country. With a majestic white facade and a large lobby, this is an inspiring and powerful hotel. We love the Presidential Suite at the exclusive “Windsor Club”. We expect the food options to be substantially improved as the food currently served at the restaurants do not reflect the history and sophistication of the property.
Four Seasons Los Angeles
Beverly Hills ca
Past the boring and unglamorous architecture of the building, this renovated Four Seasons property is a pleasant surprise with a perfectly executed interior decoration. We like the fresh, contemporary feel of the rooms with a coherent selection of furniture that go well with the decor. Nice atmosphere at the poolside Cabana restaurant. Warm service at the front desk and excellent room service.
Amigo Motor Lodge
A 1950’s motel + a wonderful couple (Philip & Kaitlin) = a great concept for affluent hipsters and cool broke travelers. It’s the spirit of a boring motel with a dash of Brooklyn sophistication. We totally love it.
Nice atmosphere in this art deco hotel, with a renovation that perfectly respects the 1929 original vibe of the building. We felt good everywhere in this property. Amazing recreation space for all the family. Don’t leave without having tried a delicious lobster roll at Katharine, the hotel’s restaurant. Tip: it’s so good that It’s better to order two at the same time.
A nice, refreshing hotel with a progressive and intellectual spirit, without the pretentiousness. The building design is slightly boring, but the interior decoration is a success. We loved the outside “campfire” restaurant, offering farm to table ultra fresh products in warm and inviting atmosphere.
The Line Hotel
Los Angeles ca
We love the futuristic and post-apocalyptic architectural and interior decoration choices of The Line hotel. A perfect choice for creative travelers. You definitely will see differently the world after staying there. Great creative neighborhood with art galleries and delicious food trucks.
The National Hotel
Miami Beach fl
This is a hotel with a soul and a history. Build in the 1930’s, the National hotel has this art deco charm and a latin flair. Magnificent pool. There are other more luxurious hotels in Miami, but we like this one which has so many stories to tell its guests. It’s priceless.
We love the entrance and the lobby. The Moana Surfrider is a historical property with an undeniable charm. Beautiful location right on the beach. The rooms are globally disappointing, with a dated decoration and bland furniture that we would not expect in such a beautiful property. Very friendly service.
French Lick Springs
French Lick in
Operating since 1845, this resort has a great historical charm. The two properties ( French Lick Springs hotel and West Baden Springs hotel) both offer a unforgettable experience. We love the amazing atrium of West Baden Springs Hotel. The room’s decoration could be upgraded, but is still pleasant. Vast choice of dining and friendly service.
White Castle la
A beautiful mansion dating back to 1850. A perfect place to discover the American South. We love the absolutely authentic & vintage furniture. The food options could be improved. Warm service. A great untapped potential in this property.
Welcome to a European inspired chateau, right in the Middle of Long Island, easily accessible from Manhattan and Brooklyn. Build in the 1920’s, this property has been restored with love by its actual owner, Gary Melius. A perfect choice for a romantic stay or a corporate event.
Standard High Line
New York ny
We have been blown away by the view from the rooms. Absolutely spectacular. From a 1970’s building that looks like a bank headquarters or a boring administrative building, the owners made a warm and contemporary hotel for forward thinking guests.
Hyatt Union Square
New York ny
A stylish boutique hotel close to Union Square. We like the beautiful white facade. Filled with contemporary art, the lobby has a modern and engaging feeling. Ask for the Sanctuary suite, with a 1,000 sqf private terrace overlooking the city. The food at the “the Fourth” restaurant is not impressive and could be much more creative to match the hotel’s style.
Crosby Street Hotel
New York ny
A beautifully designed boutique hotel. We like the decoration of the rooms, each of them different, made with a thoughtful selection of furniture and vintage decorative items. Inspiring rooftop garden with fruits and vegetables. The Drawing Room lounge is perfect for business meetings.
Four Seasons NYC Midtown
New York ny
We have been disappointed by this Four Seasons Property. The very cold lobby does not gives a good first impression. The most troubling is the dated 1980’s style everywhere in the hotel that needs a major investment in interior decoration. The food at the Garden restaurant is acceptable but not very creative. The atmosphere in the suites and rooms is insipid, due to a poor choice of uninspired furniture. One positive point: the breathtaking views on Manhattan.
New York ny
We are fans of the Yotel concept, that successfully and playfully disrupts the hospitality industry. The architects and interior designers at Yotel NYC have perfectly understood what modernity means. The rooms and suites have a clean design and decoration that surpasses many well know much more expensive luxury hotels in the city who try unsuccessfully to create a contemporary atmosphere. Very warm service. We would love to see more Yotels in the U.S..
New York ny
It’s hard to have the exact same name than a Paris iconic hotel. The Plaza Athenee New York makes commendable efforts to look like a sophisticated Parisian hotel but falls short of being what it wants to be. The Old fashioned restaurant with old style service should refresh its menus and style. We have been impressed by the renovated rooms, made with great taste and a sense of details in the fabrics, wall paper and interior decoration. A great potential not yet achieved.
The Sanctuary Hotel
Kiawah Island sc
View from the outside, the building looks quite massive and banal. We like better the interior, very warm and conservatively decorated. The rooms and suites are nicely decorated, but a touch of sophistication is lacking in the overall design. The outstanding Golf courses very close to the hotel make it a perfect choice for golfers and their family. We like the partnership with Blue Star Jets, allowing easy private jet trips to the property.
With such a beautiful location, the Amangani sadly does not deliver and fails to give what we would expect in terms of atmosphere. The overall building is not remarkable, and does not dialogue enough with its surroundings. The interior decoration lacks the sophistication and spirit we expect at all Aman properties. On the good side, the property is fabulously located in the middle of the wild and offers exciting outdoor adventures. Good and fresh food made with local ingredients.
South Lake Tahoe ca
It's a kind of secret retreat for wealthy entrepreneurs who don’t need anymore to go to flashy hotels. The room decoration is okay but nice, with a dominant of grey, like Mark Zuckenberg’s T-Shirt. Grey is definitely the new color of power. A perfect location for a business meeting with a potential investor in your company, that makes you look very cool.
The Verb is a Rock & Roll boutique hotel for music lovers. Fantastic welcome that puts you immediately in a festive and positive mood. We particularly love the rooms facing the pool. Fun & creative ambiance.
New York ny
We like the concept of offering a nicely designed property at an affordable rate. But we disagree when the consequence of a cost-reduction strategy is to have not enough -and insufficiently trained- staff members. The Public Kitchen offers good but not very creative food and would require Chef Jean-Georges to be more frequently present in the kitchen. We like this hotel, and expect improvement.
New York ny
Cleverly designed hotel. We love the American flag mural sculpture in the lobby & the choice of furniture. Beautiful views on the city. We love the outdoor pool with a “Côte d’Azur” vibe. Don’t miss the mysterious Electric room bar with comfortable British leather sofas.
Right in front of the Brooklyn bridge, with jaw dropping views on the Manhattan skyline, the Hotel 1 belongs to a new generation of hotels focused on nature, recycled materials, and farm to table food options. This is the right direction for an entire new generation of boutique hotels. We love it and hope to see more of hotels from this group.
New York ny
Nested in a beautiful 19th century building that was once the headquarters of LIFE magazine, this hotel has successfully blended a contemporary design with a link to the rich history of the building. All white decoration, filled with light and the memories of all the editors and artists who created LIFE magazine. A very inspiring place to stay in New York for journalists, photographers and novelists.
Four Seasons Downtown
New York ny
This new Four Seasons property in downtown NYC is beautifully designed. Warm contemporary decoration in the lobby and in the rooms. Don’t miss the Cut, Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant, offering a delicious Japanese Wagyu beef. But the service is the main issue at this hotel. The service is cold and sometimes condescending with guests who do not look affluent enough to the taste of the hotel’s employees. We expect the hotel’s owners to swiftly address this issue with additional staff training.
The Loews Ventana looks like an abandoned city on a planet far, far away, surrounded by giant cactus. We like the bold architecture of this resort in the middle of the mountains. Ideal choice for golf players. The interior decoration could be refreshed, but the overall impression is a very warm property with a very authentic food and friendly service.
Fort Lauderdale fl
A nice boutique hotel close to the waterfront. Warm and inviting atmosphere. The room’s decoration could be slightly refreshed and is a bit dated. Fresh food made by the talented Chef Hammi. Always friendly service.
The london NYC
New York ny
A good, honest, hotel that does the job we expect for a hotel. Good food and good service at the London lobby bar. The suites and “Sky Apartments” have a well thought contemporary decoration. Beautiful 2,500 square foot “London Penthouse”. It could be a great hotel but it’s just a good hotel. What’s missing? Probably more audacity in the interior decoration.
JW Marriott Chicago
A very, very boring decoration in the rooms. We have been disappointed by this JW Marriott property that has so much potential. The lobby is okay, but nothing really stands out and it lacks the feeling of power and domination we expect in a JW Marriott. Even the food at The Florentine restaurant is good but not very creative.
Kansas City mo
Beautiful historic property, originally established in 1931 and once the tallest building in Kansas City. We love the very well made renovation and the sophisticated decoration that respects the hotel’s art deco heritage with a touch of modernity. The overall service is not great, and we expect a serious improvement in the way guests are welcomed for such a high potential property.
An impressive 1909 building, very well maintained and restored. The decoration is done with taste. We love the Grand Lake View Suite, perfect for family gatherings. Have a evening drink at the outdoor fire bar. Overall good service, but we expect an improvement in the customer relations.
Edition Hotel NYC
New York ny
The building (a 41 story clocktower) is beautiful and has a lot of historic significance in New York City. We understand what the designers wanted to do with this hotel (a very contemporary design with touches of warmth), but the result is - sadly - very bland. On the contrary, we have been extremely impressed by the restaurant which has a very creative and warm design. Brilliant food by Chef Jason Atherton. The training of the front desk staff should be seriously improved as the customer service sometimes reaches unacceptably low levels.
We see what the Virgin group wanted to do with their Chicago property, but the result is not yet there. They wanted to be cool, but it’s still uninspired. The room decoration is nice, but lacks a full understanding of how to blend modernity and coolness. We like the overall property though, and expect improvement.
New York ny
The owners of the Whitby wanted to make a very creative hotel, filled with art pieces. We like the idea. But, sadly, it does not goes as planned with insufficiently curated pieces that don’t go well together. We love the selection of fabrics all over the hotel, from the curtains to the furniture, but it’s supposed to be a hotel, not a fabric store. We like this property, and expect improvement.
Mandarin Oriental NYC
New York ny
It feels like traveling in a 1990’s hotel, with a dated decoration that fails to impress. Apart from the beautiful views from the rooms overlooking Central park, the Mandarin Oriental New York looks like a chain hotel with a good but standardized food, service and atmosphere, where we would expect sophistication, originality and true luxury. A big disappointment on this property knowing the usual standards of excellence of the Mandarin Oriental group.
This is a beautiful Martha’s Vineyard historical property. Nice decoration with a white palette of colors. We love the small houses at the back of the property, perfect for a family. We have been disappointed by the service and the lack of training of the staff to interact with guests. It should be addressed as we are expecting a much warmer service in such a beautiful place.
